2 Product Overview

The YY/SY/CY flexible control cable range is designed for industrial control systems, automation equipment, and instrumentation applications. Manufactured to BS EN 50525-2-11 and VDE 0250 standards, these cables offer three construction variants to match different installation environments and performance requirements.

All variants feature a Class 5 flexible stranded copper conductor per IEC 60228, providing excellent flex life and ease of installation in confined spaces. The PVC insulation and sheath provide reliable dielectric strength, oil resistance, and mechanical protection across a wide temperature range from -40°C to +80°C.

Type YY is an unscreened cable suited for clean electrical environments where EMI is not a concern. Type SY adds a galvanised steel wire braid for mechanical protection against impact and rodent damage. Type CY features a tinned copper wire braid plus aluminium foil for effective electromagnetic shielding, protecting signal integrity in electrically noisy environments.

Manufactured to rigorous quality standards under the management of SORIVO, each production batch is tested for conductor resistance, insulation integrity, and voltage withstand. Available from 2 to 61 cores in cross sections from 0.5 mm² to 2.5 mm². For detailed company information, please visit sorivocable.com/about-us/.

3 Key Features

Three Construction Variants

YY (unscreened), SY (steel wire braid), and CY (copper braid + foil) cover every application from basic panel wiring to EMC-sensitive installations.

Class 5 Flexible Conductor

Fine-stranded copper per IEC 60228 provides superior flexibility, reducing installation time and enabling tight-radius routing.

Multi-Core Versatility

Available from 2 to 61 cores in sizes 0.5–2.5 mm², accommodating complex control and signal wiring in a single cable run.

EMC Shielding (CY)

Copper braid + aluminium foil provides effective EMI/RFI protection for signal integrity in industrial environments with electrical noise.

Mechanical Protection (SY)

Galvanised steel wire braid delivers impact and rodent resistance for installations in harsh or exposed conditions.

Wide Temperature Range

Suitable for -40°C to +80°C (fixed installation), covering cold storage, desert, and tropical environments.

Flame Retardant

Compliant with IEC 60332-1, limiting flame propagation and enhancing safety in industrial and building installations.

Clear Core Identification

Colour-coded (≤5 cores) or numbered (>5 cores) cores with green/yellow earth for fast, error-free termination.

4 Applications

These control cables are suitable for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications:

Industrial Control Panels Automation & PLC Systems Machine Tool Wiring Robotics & Motion Control Instrumentation & Signal Transmission HVAC & Building Management Conveyor & Material Handling Process Control Systems Power Distribution Panels Frequency Drive Connections Sensor & Actuator Wiring Industrial Communication Networks

5 FAQ

What is the difference between YY, SY, and CY control cables?

YY is unscreened (no braid) — best for clean electrical environments. SY has a galvanised steel wire braid for mechanical protection against impact. CY has a tinned copper wire braid plus aluminium foil for electromagnetic shielding to protect signal integrity.

What voltage rating do these cables have?

All three variants are rated 300/500V (Uo/U) with a test voltage of 2,000V AC, suitable for low-voltage control, signal, and power circuits in industrial and commercial installations.

Can these cables be used for continuous flexing applications?

These are designed for fixed installation or occasional flexing. For continuous flexing (drag chains, robotic arms), we recommend our specialised TRVV or chain-flex cables with higher strand count and special jacket compounds.

Are LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) versions available?

Yes, halogen-free LSZH variants are available on request. Please specify your CPR classification requirements (Cca, B2ca) when ordering so we can recommend the appropriate construction.

What is the minimum bend radius for these cables?

The minimum bend radius is 10× the outer diameter for fixed installation and 20× for flexing applications. For example, a 10 mm diameter cable requires a minimum bend radius of 100 mm (fixed).
